Write It/Build It

Comment:I was hoping to ask for details on the “writing” session for the Write it, Build it event for 4th and 5th graders. We have been informed the kids can briefly come up to the project, but they cannot touch it. Will they have tables and seats arranged around the easel where the project is displayed? If so, how close will these tables be positioned to the easel?

Answer: The Olympians will have desks in close proximity to the easel and are allowed to come up and look at it closely as needed.

Write It/Build It

Q1:  What is the exact size of the board used for the “object/picture”?
The size of the paper used to build the picture on is 12″ x 18.”
Q2:  Will the builders be given a pencil? We are using the pencil for measurements but if they don’t get one then we will stop using this.
Yes, builders will be given a pencil.
Q3a:  Are decimals and fractions allowed? For example, can the students write 1.25 inches, or 1 1/4 inches, or must it be spelled out as one and a quarter inches?
They are all good. The period, and slashes are used in their function to express the measurement.
Q3b:  1.25″, “1 1/4”, and “1 and one quarter” all represent the same measurement. Which of these is allowable in the writing portion as some contain periods and slashes that might be misconstrued as a symbol?
They are all good. The period, and slashes are used in their function to express the measurement
Q4:  If there was a shape that looked like the letter L and the team wrote the item looks like the letter L, would that be allowed?
Yes.
