Welcome to WESO 2021!
The WESO board is considering multiple options for the 2021 WESO. We will let you know when decisions are made about this year’s Olympiad. Of course the health and safety of students and adults will have to be the first consideration. We will continue following the recommendations of the Health Department and State Authorities with regards to the closure of schools and cancellations of large events by organizations/businesses.
Ideas for Science at Home*
We are aware of the disappointment our scientist/students are feeling. We are looking into how we could help. Here is a list of resources for easy, parent led science play. Please pass it along to anyone you think would like it:
“47 STEM Books for K-12 Readers”
Blue Broccoli and Nanobots
This book was written to show that girls can do anything. It was designed so that children as young as five can explore future careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). The book includes 32 female characters in a whole range of different STEM careers. The aim is for both girls and boys to look at this book and see girls being aerospace engineers, theoretical physicists, and just think that it’s normal. STEM is for everyone and this book will open their eyes to a whole new world of opportunities. https://www.awesomecareerbooks.com/blue-broccoli-and-nanobots

Cincinnati Zoo is Bringing the Zoo to You!
Home Safari Facebook Lives
While the Cincinnati Zoo is closed and kids are home from school, let us help make your children’s hiatus from school fun and educational.
Join us for a Home Safari Facebook Live each day at 3pm EDT where we will highlight one of our amazing animals and include an activity you can do from home.
To watch our live videos just go to the Cincinnati Zoo Facebook page and scroll down. It will appear like the most recent post on our feed. You will not be able to see the videos from this event page. Once the live video has ended the video will remain on our Facebook page so you can watch later if you can’t make it during the live session.
